Thirty Paintings in 30 Days - Day Two

Generic Flower
6"x 6" Acrylic on loose canvas
$45

This challenge is already proving to be a great learning experience. I said that at the end of two hours I would post whether good, bad, or ugly.

Sometimes the photo that looks like it would be really simple and easy to paint  ends up being difficult.  So it was with this photo.  I thought "Oh, nothing to it, just two different yellows and it's done!"  Not so.  I tried the two different yellows and it was horrible.  Ended up by putting the whole canvas under the tap and washing off the last layer I had put on.  That's one good thing about Acrylic - if your don't like it you can wash it off before it dries!

Anyway, the bottom line is that the painting looks nothing like the reference I was working from.  My two hour time limit was fast approaching so I didn't have time to contour any of the petals, nor to put any shadows in, or to finish a lot of other details that should have been included.  But it was a great learning experience and it was fun!  On to day 3!
