Thirty Paintings in 30 Days - Day 9
A Pair
6" x 6" Acrylic on loose canvas
$45

Yesterday I posted a painting entitled "A Pear".  As I was thinking through the day I realized that it was not a pair and that every painting of pears should have two pears in it otherwise it's not a pair!  So to remedy that situation, here is my painting of "A Pair".  Now we have two pears that are a pair!  Follow?

I'm still excited about the experience of painting 30 paintings in 30 days.  Much is being learned but it is not without its challenges.  I have discovered that acrylics, at least when applied thinly, seem to work better on a canvas that has a very fine tooth otherwise the result is very grainy.  A heavy tooth is fine for oils or acrylic applied thickly.  I guess part of this 30 day experience is to try different mediums, grounds, techniques, etc.  But most importantly it conditions the artists to paint every day.  I have known for some time that it is necessary just to paint, paint, and paint some more if one is to improve.

I have delved into the realm of the abstract and will probably post an abstract tomorrow so stay tuned.  Thanks for following!

  1. Hi Gerry, Gessoing a heavy tooth canvas provides you with a smoother painting surface and I am sure you are doing this with some of your work.
